Training workers for the 21st century.
We're reimagining and rebirthing the enduring legacy of James Solomon Russell.
Throughout its rich and compelling 125-year history Saint Paul’s College has remained a transformation presence that has enriched the lives of marginalized and underserved people. From its inception in 1888, the college was a place that affirmed the inherent value and dignity of freed African American slaves to pursue self-determination, empowerment and self-sufficiency. Since that time generations of students have been the beneficiaries of innovative education programs and professional opportunities that were a reflection of those core values.
Reimagining
In 2020 SPC4Life was formed with the mission of reimagining how Saint Paul's College could continue its legacy of affecting positive change in the lives of people in Lawrenceville VA, Brunswick county and throughout southern Virgina. Over the last five years, SPC4Life leadership has collaborated with religious, academic, government, and business leaders. During that time, we listened, learned, and then developed a relevant strategic plan to meet the needs of 21st century learners, employers, and communities.
Rebirthing
That planning gave birth to Saint Paul’s Leadership Institute and a post-secondary workforce development platform that delivers practical skills and hands-on training for those seeking sustainable career paths in the vocational trades. Saint Paul’s Leadership Institute finds a profound parallel in the missional blueprint of James Solomon Russell’s commitment to building equitable communities where every person has the opportunity to feel valued and to thrive.
